Recently acquired a Revopoint 3d scanner at a steep discount and have been having fun trying to figure out how to find it useful.
One thing I realized is that markers — reflective dots — are very effective at improving the scan accuracy. However, it's super annoying to cover things in dots, so people make magnetic markers that can attach to stuff.
The problem with all of the markers I found however was that:
None of them used the magnet dimensions I already had (6x3mm)
All of the shapes were simplistic.
A 3d scanner utilizes markers best when they're randomly displaced over an object — that way it can use them as reference points — if the markers are placed in a non-random manner, it doesn't help as much for the scanner to orient itself.
Et voila I created some procedurally generated markers. I was extra motivated to do this because I am continuing my quest of getting a free fancy Bambu Labs printer solely from creating 3d models... a long way to go though!
